Background
Current AI systems can translate poetry to some extent, but preserving rhyme and meter remains a challenging task. While machine translation has improved significantly in recent years, the nuances of poetic language, such as rhythm, meter, and rhyme, are still difficult to replicate in translated texts. Researchers have explored various approaches, including the use of neural networks and machine learning algorithms, to improve the translation of poetic texts while maintaining their artistic qualities. Imperfect, but for the first time, automatically. Modern LLMs can carry rhyme schemes across languages with mostly-coherent results. Fully automated translation of poetry that preserves rhyme and meter remains an open problem in the field of natural language processing.
