Can AI identify dog breeds from photos at expert level ?

A solved problem since the 2017 Stanford Dogs benchmark. Now a default in every camera roll.
Current AI systems can identify dog breeds from photos with a high degree of accuracy, often surpassing that of non-expert humans. These systems typically rely on deep learning models, such as convolutional neural networks, which are trained on large datasets of images of different dog breeds. While the performance of these systems is impressive, it is not yet at the level of a human expert, such as a veterinarian or a dog show judge, who can identify subtle characteristics and nuances that may not be apparent from a single photo. However, the gap between AI and human expert performance is narrowing as the quality and size of training datasets continue to improve.
